Religious Education

Kindergarten to 8th Grade

Religious Education is a cooperative endeavor between the family at home and the parish family of St. Francis of Assisi.  Our goal is to build upon and enhance the religious education begun at home.  Religious education involves weekly attendance at Mass and regular attendance at CCD class.  Our commitment is to Christian education that unites the family, the learning, the Sacraments, and the faith.

We are extremely fortunate to have a dedicated group of teachers and aids.  Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds make up our teaching staff.  They are all examples of people living Christ's command to love one another.  We do realize that the educational needs of all our students differ according to the gifts that God has given.  We look forward to working with the parents, in shaping a program for your child, if they should have special needs.

Our schedule changes each year.  We generally follow the South Windsor school calendar.  Classes customarily begin the Saturday after school starts and end around the beginning of April.  A new schedule is handed out at the beginning of the CCD school year.  Saturday classes for Grades K through 5, meet at Pleasant Valley School from 9:30am to 10:45 am.  Grades 6, 7 and 8 classes meet Monday evening, also at Pleasant Valley School, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.  Students are notified in advance of their class schedule and reminders are always published in the Church bulletin.

In case of inclement weather, please watch the television and/or listen to the radio for CCD cancellations.
